China: New Restrictions Introduced

The Chinese government has tightened their internet surveillance to suppress religious content.

Starting from 1 March, all religious content shared on social media in China will require a permit. Any illegal religious material could lead to interrogations, warnings, imprisonment, and other forms of punishment.

Due to COVID-19, the church is more dependent on the internet than ever before to grow in faith and fellowship.

One local believer said, “While the pandemic swipes across China, churches meeting online have become a new normal. With the new law out, the church’s extensive use of the internet for evangelism and spiritual nourishment is forced to come to a stop. As a result, our brothers and sisters will mostly be stripped of great access to online spiritual resources.”

Your prayers can make a difference.

Will you lift the Chinese church up in prayer at this difficult time?

Pray For China:

  • Pray for wisdom and discernment, especially for pastors leading Christian communities.
  • Pray that those sharing the gospel will persevere, no matter the cost. Pray for their protection as they continue.
  • Pray that even in the face of persecution, the church in China will grow.
