Mauricio, an Evangelical Christian convert, and his family in the state of Chiapas, in southern Mexico, reached an agreement with local authorities to end a conflict that started at the beginning of this year concerning the practice of their religious faith.
In exchange for signing the agreement, the communal leaders agreed to reinstall the essential services to Mauricio’s family home, such as water and electricity, which they ordered to be cut off for several months.
Mauricio was detained last January and taken to jail alongside his wife as a punishment for converting to Protestantism and professing a faith different from the traditional Catholic belief.
Religious freedom in Mexico still has a long way to go. In a country where most of the population declares to be Catholic, Evangelical Christians are in the minority and easy prey to intolerance, persecution, and injustice.
Pray For Mexico:
- Praise God that this agreement was reached.
- Pray that Mauricio and his family will not be afraid to share the gospel.
- Pray that the body of Christ in Mexico will be united.
